Pieces of Me

Santa’s Magical Kingdom ~ Giveaway

Part of me is reeling in the shock that Christmas is now only thirty-six sleeps away! Despite my best efforts and intentions, I do not have my Christmas shopping finished, I have not even contemplated any Christmas baking and the idea that in two weekends time I need to start Christmas decorations only leaves me feeling overwhelmed and anxious. This is hardly the way to start the most festive season of the year.

Luckily, there are two little boys in this house who do not worry themselves over buying Christmas presents or working out busy Christmas schedules. Instead all they can do is completely immerse themselves in the excitement and anticipation of Christmas. And I am grateful for that. Grateful that my boys can be the reminder I need to keep in check what Christmas is all about. I guess that is something we often neglect to realise as parents – that we can learn so much from our children.

Knee deep in parenting books, juggling a mountain of advice and trying to put it all into practice often leaves me feeling that all I do is set rules, set boundaries and teach my boys all day long. Only very recently I have come to realise that parenting is as much about teaching as it is about learning. I continue to be amazed at the insight my boys have into life. And more often than not, their view is so much better than mine.

So this Christmas while I juggle all the things that need to get done, I am also going to enjoy the magic that only comes this time of year. Visiting streets of Christmas lights, all the Christmas adventures in the city, the many family gatherings we have planned these are the moments that I look forward to and matter the most.

A truly special way to be immersed in the magic of Christmas is at Santa’s Magical Kingdom. We missed going last year and cannot tell you just how awesome it was to go this year. It was the perfect start to feeling the Christmas spirit.

Despite being so exhausted and tired at the end of night, AJ managed to put things right back into perspective when he told me “that was the most awesome night Mum! I’m going to tell everyone at school on Monday!” Funnily enough, my feet didn’t ache as much as we walked back to the car, hugging and holding hands. Moments like these are what make Christmas special and the memories that I will hold onto.

Oh wow! Great photos. Family and a feast is what I most look forward to at Christmas. And hearing the kids laugh continuously for days …

That looks magnificent. Huge fan of anything Christmas. I havent even started thinking of gifts……

  • LydiaCLee

    36 sleeps? Shhhh!

  • Pip (@melbournelass)

Racing around the streets, in the pool or in the yard with whatever the freshly unwrapped surprises are on the day of days. Magic! It’s all about the laughs, the play and celebrating together.

  • Wish we had something like that festival up here, it’s so magical! I really get into Xmas, and with 3 kids who love it also I can’t wait to show them the Xmas lights down the street every night like we do from about 25 days til the big day x

  • Stephanie Veljanovska

Now that I am mother I look forward to making the day extra special for my Children unfortunately last year we were in the RCH having surgery on Christmas Day. So I am really wanting to make this Christmas extra special.

  • conie silvestro

I have wanted to take my 4 kids this Christmas so we would love to go.

  • I think I need a festival like that to help me relocate the spirit of Christmas which I seem to have lost thanks to Christmas popping up in shop in September. I didn’t really need to know that Xmas is only 36 sleeps away. Shhhhh

  • Diana O

I love the build up, the week before Christmas, wrapping presents, baking and cooking up a storm. All so I can see endless smiles on all my family members faces when the big day arrives.

  • Di

The hope of finding a pressie under the tree, that’s just for me! Not for the family or for hubby & I to share, and not something for the house or kitchen, but just for me!!! I know it sounds greedy, but everyone else gets personal presents, and being a Mum everyone just assumes you want ‘practical’ things.

  • oh gosh Josefa, that looks like so much fun! I wish there was one up here!! I definitely need something like that. Christmas this year just seems like a “chore”. We usually have our decorations down from the attic by now, if not spread all over the place. I just don’t have the energy or excitement this year. 🙁

  • wow that looks awesome! I’m looking forward to a break. Just the relentlessness of routine for the year is a bit overwhelming come December and I look forward to just being around family and friends. I’ve started shopping but must get around to finishing it, That’s about as far as I’ve come though!

  • Wow…beautiful photos! I love the magic of Christmas…I wish we lived closer to Melbourne… xx

  • Amy {The Misadventurous Maker}

Christmas decorations and Christmas carols are my favourite things!!!! Such a fun time of year!!!

  • Wow that looks like so much fun!!! No wonder the kids had a ball!! I love Christmas but it can get overwhelming, thankfully in the past 5 years, we keep simplifying it and making it about experiences like this and not the actual day. In our house we don’t have Christmas day we have the festive season!

  • That does look amazing! Wish we had something like that up here!
I love Christmas. This time of year is just my favourite 🙂

  • Chantel

My favourite time of the year! It is such a magical time and I love that this is the first year that Zeb “gets it”. We are only in our house for 5 days of December, so I am not decorating, but I have lots of Elf on the Shelf things planned and stuff leading up to it todo. Still need to do more Xmas shopping though – so far behind – eek!!!!!

  • Lucy @ Bake Play Smile

That looks fantastic!! I am starting to get a bit excited about Christmas… although I only started shopping yesterday!!!! Better start getting organised! 🙂

  • Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad

Ah a timely reminder, thank you. It’s so true. Everyone goes batshite crazy towards the end of the year trying to tick things of their lists and finishing off things in time for the big day. Children often get pushed aside to allow for it all, when it should actually be mostly about them.
Glad you had one of those warm and fuzzy family outings. They’re the best. What it’s all about.
How crazy are the bikes hey? I could barely watch. I thought I was about to witness a suicide.
I wanna go see the Christmas lights with the boy this year too (missed out last year). They always put so much cheer in my soul.

  • Great perspective, Josefa. I have just been reading blogs about creative advent calendars and craft projects and I have to admit to feeling overwhelmed by it all. My kids will most likely end up with a Freddo advent calendar from Coles if I am feeling permissive, or none if I decide they don’t need that much chocolate in their lives. And I’m happy to leave craft to the daycare people. As for shopping, I haven’t even started. Oh dear…

  • Cher Haining

I love decorating the tree with the ‘help’ of the grandkids, they hang up the small empty treat bags, then beg me to fill them. It pure innocent fun, we have rituals we follow and take turns in hanging certain ‘special’ decorations on the tree

  • Melinda

I love everything about Christmas! I love the shopping, the wrapping, the streets with lights shining, seeing the kids faces as they run to the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. I love pretending I knew nothing about the gifts they are receiving. I love all the Christmas concerts I have to sit through, I love all the parties that also go along with Christmas. I still love catching up with all my cousins and watching our kids play together while we eat our hearts out and sip cocktails. I love watching my mother go crazy spoiling her grand children….what’s not to LOVE about Christmas.

  • April P

Sharing fun times with family, enjoying great food and seeing the kids excitement when they unwrap their presents..

  • Emma Fahy Davis

It sounds cliched, but I’d give up all the presents and commercialism if I could, for me Christmas is about spending time with the people I love – gathering together for Mass and to share a meal and a laugh. Such precious memories!

  • shantell thomas

Ohh How beautiful this place is a place all kids will love and enjoy!!

  • Mich

Knowing that there is a whole year before I will have to start shopping, baking, decorating and overeating again!

  • I’m almost ready for Christmas. I really look forward to baking the treats and wrapping all the presents and seeing the look of excitement on my nieces and nephews faces when they see the presents just for them!

  • Rebecca Andrew

Decorating the house and tree, watching Christmas movies with the kids, cooking Christmas treats, really just spending quality time with the people I love 🙂

  • Michelle Gray

I look forward to seeing excitement on the kids faces, simple things like going to the shopping centre and catching a glimpse of Santa, or seeing the big decorated tree, or hearing the Christmas carols playing, they all bring such a magical look to kids faces.

  • JaniseR

Love to take 3 princesses and friend’s to visit decorated houses in streets around neighbourhood then home to get ready for santa’s visit.
