On A Mission

The number of Australians opting for missionary and volunteer work is on the increase. Since 1951, Australian Volunteers International, our first international volunteer agency, has found places for more than 10,000 people globally. Says Professor Matthew Clarke, head of humanities and social sciences at Deakin University, “While we’ve had a long history of missionary work with a religious aspect, we’re now seeing people undertake that commitment with a more humanist component.”

Josefa Pete talks with three families who dared to dream they could make a difference.
