Five things I have not taught my kids and it is okay

A Saturday morning like any other, except when the phone rang and it was my mum on the other end, what she told left me dumbfounded and in an instant I was questioning (once again) my parenting.

“I’m sending dad over to pick up the boys and their bikes. It is about time someone taught those boys to ride without training wheels.” I didn’t even have time to replay her statement over in my mind before she added that she was cooking dinner for us and the conversation was over.

Training wheels? The thought had never even entered my mind. My boys are seven and five. They loved playing outside and loved riding their bikes. Teaching them to ride without their training wheels was something I thought would happen one day, but I certainly never expected that one day to be today. Nor did I think there was any urgency for that day to be today.
